From Residente to Megan Thee Stallion, we’ve got a different kind of episode for you this week. In anticipation of the 2023 Berlin Music Video Awards taking place in June, we’re spotlighting some of last year’s winners. This is a fun way for us to incorporate new and *different* kinds of music videos, esp. international ones. We hope you enjoy!

Somber’s “Violet Days”, Stars’ “Patterns”, K. Flay’s “High Enough”, Zedd’s “Stay the Night”, and The XX’s “Islands”. Relationships are dances! In this episode we look at music videos that spotlight duet dancing, or what could be called couple or relationship dancing. Our selection is admittedly heteronormative, but it’s still a really great collection of dancing and music. Come for the music videos, stay for the night!

Pulp’s “This is Hardcore”, Monarchy’s “Disintegration”, & Madonna’s “Material Girl”. This episode is all about 1950’s aesthetic and playing roles—two themes that go surprisingly hand in hand! We talk about the parallels between pornography and life; a uniquely beautiful representation of the bored housewife with wild sexual fantasies trope; and finally how not to woo a material girl!

Bat for Lashes’ The Bride. We have been excited to do this episode since the beginning! This series of videos is one of our most beloved. We cover the three music videos and one live performance from Bat For Lashes’ album The Bride, which tells the story of a bride whose fiancé dies on the way to the wedding (we know, heartbreaking!). We discuss the lie of fairy tale endings and finding yourself through tragedy and grief, but mostly we gush over the beauty of these music videos. We deep dive into the imagery and song lyrics, and get a little emotional along the way. Come have a good cry with us!
